Turisas - Paganfest America in Denver, CO
Turisas headlined this year’s Paganfest in North America and since we missed them last February on tour with Cradle of Filth, I couldn’t wait to finally see them live. And the wait paid off; Turisas played an awesome show at the Marquis Theater in Denver, CO.
We had an interview scheduled with violinist Olli Vänskä (check right here) earlier in the day and to my surprise a line had already formed. Still about 2 hours until doors and the Front Range pagan metal fans were eagerly waiting to rush into the venue. And I could see why. The line-up for this tour was very good with Alestorm as direct support, Arkona, and Huntress. But the majority of the fans were definitely awaiting the return of Turisas, which was particularly apparent by the sea of red and black striped faces in the crowd.
Huntress played a good set and got things started. Next up was Arkona out of Russia who were the surprise band for many that night. This was their first time performing in Denver but I will definitely keep my ears open for their next gig.
I haven’t seen Alestorm in a while and it was nice to catch up with the guys and also check out their new drummer. Dani Evans (guitar) and the boys brought the right atmosphere and if you have ever seen Alestorm live you know what I am talking about. (Alestorm live pictures right HERE)
Headliner Turisas put on an amazing show and their set lasted about 80 minutes, give or take. Everybody in attendance was cheering, clapping and some even got a bit too rowdy. At some point vocalist Mathias asked the crowd to please be aware of the younger fans in attendance and not to crush them into the stage. Very nice gesture and it was well received by all.
