The Summer Slaughter Tour once again was held at the Summit Music Hall in downtown Denver, CO.
Having 6 interviews scheduled that day made it a bit hectic but as usual the day turned out to be pretty good. But unfortunately this also meant I had to miss some bands on the bill.
Fleshgod Apocalypse was the first band I was able to watch live (Within the Ruins played before them) and since those Italian dudes only played 4 songs I caught their entire set.
Honestly, I wasn't gonna miss this anyway, since I missed them last time they were in town with Suffocation.
The Summit Music Hall was SOLD OUT and the line of people trying to get into the venue seemed never ending. Door's were at 3pm and luckily by the time Fleshgod Apocalypse hit the stage (around 4.15pm) most of the fans made it into the venue.
"The Violation" from their upcoming album Agony was the chosen song to open their short but extremely powerful set. Since the band released this track as a single and also recently made a video, most of the audience was familiar with it.
"In Honour of Reason" from their 2009 debut album Oracles was up next and right then and there
I could have kicked myself in the ass for not seeing them last year. Holy Shit those guys are good!
Hopefully when Fleshgod Apocalypse comes back later this year with Decapitated they will be able to hang their banner behind the drum kit so we all can enjoy Mr. Ferrini rocking out behind his keys.
Another new song "The Egoism" came over the speakers and while listening to this one I clearly understood why so many people in the audience are fans of the band.
The guitar riffs and solos alike just go perfectly with the orchestral arrangements. The vocals are deep and growling and just fit the overall atmosphere of the music.
One of the biggest surprises for me was Francesco Paoli on drums. Since I am not a big fan of modern drum productions (triggered the @#$ out) it was refreshing to watch him. In my opinion, dude sounds fifty thousand times better live then on CD.
Fleshgod Apocalypse ended their set with "Thru our Scars" from last years EP Mafia.
Seriously, you have to check them out if you like extreme metal with a twist of orchestra. Unfortunately the Rocky Mountain region will not be able to see them perform later this year (for tour dates check here) but I do hope that they will make their way back here sooner rather then later.
We also conducted an INTERVIEW with the guys after their set in Denver (recorded by Superskum) but for now check out some of the pictures from Denver.
